Union/Labor Workshops
- Let Know Your Rights, Inc. speaker, long-time plaintiff’s attorney and former union staff attorney, N. Nora Nye, Esq., give your stewards, representatives and business agents the knowledge that not only helps your union members but helps your union to fully represent your members.
- Nora Nye will present a one-day training/workshop that fully educates
your stewards on how to handle often-difficult employment law issues and
concepts that a member may come to them for help with. These issues are usually
not addressed in a collective bargaining agreement and most
stewards/representatives simply don’t know how to handle these issues when they
arise. Such issues include:
- Sexual harassment, sex/gender, race/national origin, age and religious discrimination and retaliation under Title VII and other federal laws protecting the rights of employees on the job.
- Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), disability accommodations and other federal laws important to employees.
- Tips on how to help a member through the process with these issues including how to approach Human Resources, how to document what is happening, how to file with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) or equivalent state civil rights commission as well as how to involve the local and national union to protect the member from unfair and illegal treatment by management.
- Not only will your stewards/representatives be better trained on how to help with these difficult issues, the union member will be assured that they are totally represented by their union which assists the union to avoid union representation issues that often come up when a member faces harassment, discrimination, FMLA, disability and other issues in the workplace.
- Your union stewards/representatives and business agents deserve to know how to help union members through these difficult problems and the members will find strength in a knowledgeable union brother or sister to help them solve these issues, which benefits everyone!
